I had Artery surgery and ended up staying longer than expected but everyone that I came in contact with was extremely pleasant positive helpful. Nothing was taken for granted and facts were checked and double checked. I felt very secure that I was in good hands. I was nervous going in but my nerves were put to rest. I would recommend Banner Dessert Hospital.

Absolutely horrible hospital with inconsiderate and uneducated staff. My wife has come here multiple times in complete agony unable to breath she could have DIED but instead of being treated she was told she Is lying. Come to find out she needs a Cholecystectomy AND STILL she gets sent home with a life threatening condition. We had to come back to a different ER the same day so that she could get the surgery that they should have done 2 weeks ago. I dont understand how this can be called a hospital if they dont treat their patients medically just shove them to the side and left to deal on their own. We have been disrespected by just about every staff member you can come in contact with from the front desk to the doctors and nurses. It makes me sick because you can tell the staff only cares about their workload and when they get to go home not giving medical treatment like they are supposed to.

I recently had a love one have surgery at this hospital. From dietary to nursing the experience was far less than satisfactory. The quality of dietary selection in the cafe was a 2 out of ten. The food looked like it had been sitting all day. When my loved one ordered his room service that to was a let down. They just couldnt get the order right and the taste and quality yet another let down. The wait time also needs improvement. The nurse from 7 AM to to 7 pm was by far the rudest and simply incompetent her beside manner left me feeling like she needed a different job. If your patient ask for pain meds why is it so difficult to do what youre being asked. Why does it take you more than 35 minutes to answer a call light. Why are you cutting people off when they are speaking closing the door and walking away. Your job is to mage pain and care for the patient. On discharge you allowed the patient who had a major surgery to walk himself out no wheelchair no assistance. Shame on you Shane on this facility for their poor customer service. The only positive I can give was the nice volunteers that show you around.

Worst hospital I have come in contact with. The actual medical care from the docs is fine but once you get to your room its not so great. My wife has been here a week after surgery on her foot. She was supposed to be discharged yesterday and was told she was going home. 15 minutes later after packing everything up and getting dressed they told her she cant go home yet because they havent set up nursing care to administer home antibiotics. So we had to wait another night. She was told she was going home tomorrow for sure. Got here today paying for a 45 minute Lyft ride so we could pick up our car and its the same thing again Now they have to have schedule somebody to do wound care at home. They couldnt have communicated this before Very poor planning. Another delay. If you call a nurse it takes 20-30 minutes for someone to respond. In addition to that the room has been cleaned only once in the past week. They do eventually come and take the food trays. Sheets havent been changed in a week despite several requests. A poorly run hospital. I dont know if its because theyre understaffed or what but after seeing the reviews on here I wholeheartedly concur. These are for-profit institutions and they are giving as little as they possibly can for a huge amount of money. Yay capitalism Our son spent ten days in ICU for a car accident related brain injury at Chandler Regional almost a year ago and the care was phenomenal. So thankful he wasnt here. After coming here every day for a week I finally got fed up today and asked to see the case manager. That was over 2 hours ago. They told me they would get him to come to the room so I could speak to him about whats going on. So far nobody has shown up.There will be the standard corporate response stating that they wish to talk to you about the situation. Its totally meaningless.

I had a great experience here for recent surgery. Check in was friendly and smooth. Lots of safety measures in place to reduce germs lots of safety double checks as well. Rylee my nurse was very sweet and took good care of me. Jake the surgery intern was very kind the rest of the staff was kind as well though I cant remember everyones name. The anesthesiologist Dr Putnam I think was very thorough and attentive. Best surgery experience Ive had. Thank you

I recently had surgery to remove part of my colon at Banner Desert by Dr Casano with Arizona Advanced Surgery. She was wonderful to work with the entire process. The staff at the hospital were also fantastic I am so grateful to have been taken care of by such a great group of nurses. They were courteous caring helpful and had truly compassionate hearts. Bedside manner is so very important during post op recovery I could feel their positivity every step of the way. It turned a very painful and difficult experience into one that helped me to increase my gratitude for great people. Thank you for everything

So Im currently sitting in the waiting room at 700pm. I have been here since 130pm. My husband was advised to come here due to abdominal pain. Took over 2 hours just for him to be called when I was informed I could not come with MY HUSBAND to the back. He sat in a cold narrow hallway for multiple more hours before finally getting an ultrasound. 2 hours later and we still do not have ultrasound results. My husband has been having anxiety attacks and Ive still been told that I cannot be with him.My husband is also diabetic and has NOT HAD FOOD SINCE THIS MORNING. Is holding diabetic patients for an entire day without any updates on whats going on a regular occurrence hereHonestly I would say this hospital needs better staffing but since there no room in the back for spousal visits they should just close this whole facility and send the employees to other locations. This is the worst care weve ever received in our lives.

DONT GO HERE Spent 4 hrs in the ER and they did nothing. My fiance had something in his eye. NEVER EVEN SAW A DOCTOR The nurse numbed his eye to look and just gave him a referral even though the last time he has something in his eye they were able to scrape it out. We waited 2 hours for drops which we had to ask for only to never put them in and ended up writing a script for it. Staff was terrible and didnt even communicate with each other. You better off anywhere else but here.

The process here is an absolute joke. Your unable to accompany your patient and consult with the doctor. The wait time was 3 to 4 hours above any Ive ever experienced. I dont know if they are understaffed or just poorly run. Ive never been more disappointed with the service or a visit to a hospital in my life. I absolutely suggest you call around before coming here. There are so many better options. The communication we received here which is none is terrible. We have no idea what stage our daughters care is in if she will be released or checked in and for no reason that I can understand we are unable to go back and actually discuss it with her.I sincerely urge you not to waste your time here. If you are heading to this emergency room go elsewhere. If you have just checked in and your reading this get up and go somewhere else you wont regret that choice.

ER is a joke. ZERO privacy. HIPAA doesnt exist here. Yep got to hear the Dr consultation of the person sitting beside me whether I wanted to or not no curtain and Im literally sitting right beside this person We are placed in an open area in the ER and sat in a lobby chair for everyone that walks by to see. Might as well hang a sign around our necks for everyone to read as well. They place your ID stickers on the chair you are sitting in is it just me or is this patient errors just waiting to happen not to mention blood clots for sitting in these chairs for HOURS. Finally I grabbed the chair beside me to elevate my legs. There are currently 5 of us in here. No curtains. 3 of us in lobby chairs 2 in beds. Correction the beds have curtains. They added an addition to the hospital but cant afford furniture yet alone privacy and dignity for the patients in their care. I will NEVER set foot in this place again. The staff is wonderful but I feel sorry that they work in such a depressing atmosphere. Banner Desert your staff patients and community deserve better

Frequently Asked Questions
Speech therapy is almost always recommended for autistic children since many people with autism have difficulty with social communication. Even if a child is very verbal and says a lot of words, they might need to work on communication skills like:
responding to questions
starting or ending conversation
changing conversation topics
using gestures like pointing
understanding other people's body language
Speech therapy is a big focus in early intervention for autistic children and is usually the starting place for recently diagnosed kids. There is a critical period in the brain for language development and so, it's really important to teach language and communication skills as early as possible, especially if there are any delays in that area. Your child will learn effective ways to communicate which will help them grow into more independent and confident individuals.
It might be obvious when a child struggles with speaking —they are very quiet, say only a few words, or don't speak at all.
Spot speech and language delays like a doctor here.
The goal of speech therapy is to help your child communicate effectively with other people across all environments. This may take the form of using gestures, simple signs, verbal speech, and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC).
Some other common things speech therapists can help with:
Nonverbal skills, such as signs or gestures
Forming speech in a clearer way
Communicating thoughts and feelings clearly
Understanding and responding to questions
Discerning facial expressions and their corresponding emotions
Noticing and understanding body language
Feeding and swallowing
Stuttering
Your pediatrician might be able to administer screenings, but most general doctors are not trained to formally diagnose autism. They might refer you to a qualified diagnostic clinician which include:
Developmental Pediatricians
Child Psychologists
Child Psychiatrists
Pediatric Neurologists
Pediatric Neuropsychologists
Your experience might look different depending on the type of clinician you choose. Many families prefer working with developmental pediatricians. Others might work with a psychiatrist or another specialist to get a different perspective.
A formal ASD diagnosis, or a medical diagnosis, helps you get the support your family needs, especially within the context of accessing medically necessary therapies and services.
Insurance Coverage for Therapies: Medically necessary therapies for ASD are often covered by insurance including, but not limited to, speech therapy, ABA therapy, and occupational therapy.
Financial Support: A diagnosis is required when applying for social security or disability benefits.
Plan for Care: A diagnosis helps identify your child’s support needs. For example, your child might need to develop social communication and self-regulation skills.
Future Research: The more data we gather through evaluations, the more we can improve services for autistic children and adults.
When you visit a neurologist, they’ll assess your child’s needs, run some tests (think imaging or EEG), and diagnose. From there, they’ll create a customized treatment plan. Medication, lifestyle tweaks, or maybe even a referral to another specialist could be on the table.
There unfortunately isn’t one test for all neurodevelopmental conditions. Most likely you will go into a visit to test one or two medical conditions. If you are looking for a comprehensive autism evaluation, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, or neuropsychologists are the preferred specialists who can diagnose autism.
No, neurologists focus mainly on non-surgical interventions. If your child needs surgery, neurologists might point you in the direction of a pediatric neurosurgeon.
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
