Founding Story
Alex received her Master of Arts degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from St. John’s University. She is a certified SLP licensed to practice in New York, California, and Florida; and she holds her Certificate of Clinical Competence from The American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA). Language development has always been a passion for Alex, which is why she wrote The Daisy Speech Books series! Apart from early intervention, Alex also sees toddlers and older children for speech sound disorders, articulation, fluency, Childhood Apraxia of Speech, and myofunctional disorders. Aphasia is another passion of Alex’s, having worked side by side with the aphasia pioneer in the Speech Language Pathology field, the late Bill Connors.
Alex started her career working as a school based SLP, creating and teaching social skill classes for adolescents. From there, Alex provided speech language therapy to children on the autism spectrum; and accent modification in Barcelona, Spain! She now resides on Long Island with her two small children and husband, after living in Los Angeles for 4 years.
Alex provides therapy in both English and Spanish. She is both PROMPT (Prompts for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets) trained and trained in DTTC (dynamic temporal and tactile cueing) for treating children with apraxia and articulation disorders. When treating individuals with sensory processing disorders and feeding delays, Alex follows the SOS (Sequential Oral Sensory) approach to feeding therapy.
Aside from speech therapy, Alex has experience working with typically developing children, having taught English to toddlers in Spain and used dance in toddler development for over 10 years. These experiences have helped craft Alex’s approach as a therapist as she is able to benchmark against the speech and language milestones of typically developing children. It is important for speech pathologists to understand the progression of typical developing children so that they can assess and set appropriate goals for therapy.
