Neurologists in Prewitt, NM 87045

A neurologist is an expert on the nervous system. Problems in the nervous system can start in the brain, spine, nerves, or muscles. You might start to notice signs of nerve issues if your child experiences seizures, headaches, or developmental delays. A pediatric neurologist evaluates children who are having problems with their nervous system and can diagnose things like autism, ADHD, or intellectual disabilities.

If you have concerns about your child’s neurological health, it’s always a good idea to consult your pediatrician or family doctor first. They can evaluate your child’s needs, medical history, and provide appropriate advice. If you seek support from a neurologist, they can assess your child’s behaviors or symptoms, do some neurological exams, and order tests or scans if needed.

We’ve put together a few examples and scenarios where seeing a neurologist might be beneficial. Check out our guide for seeing a neurologist.

Your pediatrician is likely your first stop, this is where your child will go for checkups and general concerns. But, clinical specialists (like a neurologist) can play an important role in providing the personalized support your child needs. Based on results from evaluations and your child’s needs, your pediatrician will help you understand which specialists and therapists make sense for ongoing care.
