Why I’m Here: I spent four years at UnitedHealth Group (UHG) working on a team that served parents who have kids with special needs and I saw firsthand how difficult navigating healthcare can be.

There were a few takeaways I had from my UHG experience:

1. The work doesn’t need to be glamorous to make a big difference. The majority of our work was helping parents better resolve seemingly boring insurance issues - things like claims, prior authorizations and appeals - and yet we raised the Net Promoter Score from -5 to 73 for over 70K families and had at least one parent per week describe our service as a “godsend”.

2. By doing the right thing you can save everyone money. Despite approving claims more often and providing an expensive 1:1 support model, our team saved UHG tens of millions of dollars in costs due to getting these families the services they needed earlier on and keeping them out of more expensive care settings

3. There is still so much left to do. I had the chance to talk with hundreds of parents, and although insurance roadblocks were often top of mind, they shared over and over countless other challenges they faced...

Beaming Health builds off of these key learnings:

1. Our product offering is not ground breaking: Our core offering is a vetted and validated directory of autism services. Similar to UHG starting with a Net Promoter Score of -5, the best autism resource directory on the market right now is 50% accurate at best. Although not necessarily a novel idea, we hope it will make a world of a difference

2. There is a lot of money to be saved: The cost of autism to the U.S. is projected to increase from $260 billion last year to $460 billion by 2025 and by getting kids the right services when they need them, we are confident we can save everyone money.

3. Beaming Health will become the one-stop shop for autism resources. We have a pipeline of product offerings that we’re building over the coming months and years to address the biggest challenges we’ve heard from parents. From helping uncover financial resources to offering services ourselves, our mission is to help every parent rest easy at night knowing they’re doing everything they can to set their child up for success.

We have the team and foundation to make it happen, and I could not be more excited to be working on it.
