The provider I saw was extremely nice but the billing department is absolutely awful. I was told I would pay a copay per specialist visit and now Tufts is coming after me for thousands of dollars because they coded all of my visits as hospital visits and are refusing to change it. They also dont offer any financial assistance if you have insurance. The billing department is next to impossible to get ahold of and they flat out refuse to work with you. Extremely rude Im fighting them as best I can but Im definitely never going to Tufts ever again.

The emergency rooms around this city are getting really bad. Tuffs is just like bmc with the drug addiction probelm in this city. Cant get real care because these hospitals treat you like everyone is on drugs insane Family member went to Tuffs ER in severe pain difficulty breathing drenched in sweat with a high fever they sent him home. They couldnt give an answer to what is going on. Said nothing is wrong and he was told to leave and escorted by security when he said he couldnt breath.Thats what our health care system is turning into and I work in health care. I see it first hand the lack of care with some of these Doctors and RNs. Sad. Alot of things go untreated of misdiagnosed. I called Tuffs to find out further why he was discgarged and his condition didnt improve and it its now worse. He still has all these symptoms. They said come back. No thanks we will find real service elsewhere. Not after how he was treated by these professionals as if they didnt believe him. All they did was just over medicate him for the pain and that didnt help with how he was feeling. Thanks Tuffs

The team that handled my case absolutely top notch and the medical care that I received was stellar. That said due to the rooms not being air conditioned the place not always being that clean and the web portal being absolutely useless I cannot rate this place 5 star. If you want your medical records good luck it is practically impossible.

Dont know what is wrong with this company when it comes to trying to pay your medical bills with these people monthly but my dog would have a better understanding on why these people are so messed up. Been paying a bill on time for 5 months straight through the website. Then all of a sudden they Wanted the full amount on the six month. Called them and they said they having issues where a whole bunch of people info got sent to the wrong place and I would have to call in every month to pay my monthly payments. Then a month later I was denied being able to do what they said to pay the monthly bill and would have to go back on the website I used originally to pay the bill but it wasnt available at that time and I would receive a call from Tufts Mwdical letting me know 2 weeks later that I could pay through the site. Come two weeks later I get an email from a dept collection agency wanting yhr remainder of the bill. Told the story I told before of what happened and was told Tufts Medical was the one who sent this dept collection agency after me. And Id have to call Tufts Medical to tell them to remove me from the dept collection agency. Let say at this point Im getting close to calling a news station or a lawyer to figure out how to solve this issue.

I came in to the ER in November 2023 in severe pain. I had intermittently had this pain for years. My PCPs office ignored me. Tufts listened believed the amount of pain I was in and fixed my health issue in less than a week with a single surgery. I want to say thank you to everyone on South 8 to the surgery team to the lab techs that came to get my blood every morning the house keeping staff that cleaned my room daily to the aides that helped me get up after surgery to the vascular nurses that didnt give up finding my veins when I was dehydrated and to the food service staff that made my meals and delivered them to me.Thank you all you are all appreciated. Hospitals are never fun but you all made my visit much more pleasant than I ever thought it would be.

I was referred to Tufts by a specialist on 1127. As a new patient who has the experience of other Boston based hospital as a point of reference my experience with Tufts Medical Center has been less than poor. Despite being asked by the referring physician to be seen that week as well as the intervention of another specialist physician who called the office 2x plus the MA DPH trying for over 3 hours I continue to struggle to secure a timely appointment. For me the administrative clerks delay your care unnecessarily and given their lack of clinical education do not understand how their actions may adversely impact your care. For example why is your care delayed when they do not have a clinical referral especially when the specialist e-mailed the provider directly or a copy is available in the patient portal Why not ask that the item be faxedemailed or speak to the provider rather than instruct the patient to call another non-Tufts facility to see if they received it in error There is no remorse for the error or inconvenience they present and leaves you understandably with a significant amount of trepidation on the care you are about to receive. You hope this incident is isolated to the support staff and is not reflective of the direct patient care providers but most importantly you hope that your health has not been compromised given the lack of operational oversight.

Whole my family was TUFTS patients over 25 years with our lovely PCP. Everything was normal until our PCP retired. Then the nightmare started. TUFTS system didnt provide us any information and they are SEPARATED family members to different doctors without any conversation with us. I call TUFTS a couple of times but nobody called me back. I just needed to get the referral but there is no possibility to contact with a doctor or office or someone. Just the general number where you can call and... there will be no feedback. Im absolutely disappointed and its unbelievable what TUFTS is doing with their patients.

Frequently Asked Questions
Use visual aids. You can use picture schedules, videos, social stories, and other visual aids to show your child what to expect.
Take your child for a practice visit. This can be the same as the orientation visit, or it can be a “dry run” of an appointment where the dentist doesn’t actually work on your child’s teeth yet.
Bring items to fulfill sensory needs. Bringing your child’s favorite fidgets and toys so they can play during the appointment will be helpful.
Reduce unnecessary stress before and after. Reduce demands by wearing comfortable clothes, getting lots of rest, eliminating unnecessary activities (like grocery shopping — order for pick up!), and doing the things that relax your child. Your child will be able to regulate better when every day stressors are kept at a minimum.
Yes, a psychiatrist is a good person to speak with regarding medication for your child. While you might have an idea of what might work for your child, it’s best to have a conversation with a medical professional, such as a psychiatrist. What works for one autistic child may not work for another, so consider your child’s individual needs and goals.
If you’d like to explore prescription medications or supplements for your child, weigh your options and concerns with your child’s medical team and create a plan. Discuss developments and side effects with your child’s doctor and adjust as needed.
When you visit a neurologist, they’ll assess your child’s needs, run some tests (think imaging or EEG), and diagnose. From there, they’ll create a customized treatment plan. Medication, lifestyle tweaks, or maybe even a referral to another specialist could be on the table.
There unfortunately isn’t one test for all neurodevelopmental conditions. Most likely you will go into a visit to test one or two medical conditions. If you are looking for a comprehensive autism evaluation, developmental pediatricians, psychologists, or neuropsychologists are the preferred specialists who can diagnose autism.
No, neurologists focus mainly on non-surgical interventions. If your child needs surgery, neurologists might point you in the direction of a pediatric neurosurgeon.
The occupational therapy process includes an OT evaluation before care starts. Here are the four steps your family can expect when starting occupational therapy:
Complete OT evaluation. An occupational therapist first identifies your child’s strengths and needs through a thorough OT evaluation, also known as an OT assessment or screening. You’ll answer questions about your child’s skills, and your child will most likely demonstrate their skills via hands-on activities with the therapist. Evaluations can last 30 minutes to a few hours.
Approve OT plan. The therapist develops a care plan with individualized goals and customized interventions based on your child’s needs. You can also share any specific goals or concerns before approving the OT plan.
Start therapy sessions. The therapist works directly with your child and your family, using various strategies and exercises to systematically improve areas of limitations and to build upon a child’s strengths. Some exercises your child might participate in are animal walks, obstacle courses, and therapy swing activities. Your family may learn strategies for supporting your child’s individualized needs at home, such as ways of supporting emotional regulation and sensory processing. The therapist may also recommend tools and techniques to use at home, in the community, or in the classroom to help your child succeed.
Monitor your child’s progress. Parents and caregivers can expect ongoing progress monitoring and communication to ensure the child is achieving their short and long-term goals.
Occupational therapy can also be provided virtually via telemedicine. Virtual therapy is a great option for families in rural areas who may not have access to in-person services, or for families who prefer to have therapy in their child’s home.
Virtual OT allows the opportunity for increased caregiver participation and understanding of a child’s strengths, areas of improvement, and generalization of skills in the child’s home environment. Virtual therapy also provides increased opportunities for caregiver and family education to support the child and the family based on each family’s needs.
Once you find a quality physical therapist you want to work with, here are a few things you need to know:
There will be an evaluation. First, you can expect an assessment to identify your child’s areas of strength and needs. A physical therapy evaluation usually lasts 30 minutes.
You’ll review and approve the care plan. The physical therapist will create a care plan, also known as a plan of care (POC), outlining the goals and strategies. They will review this with you and your care team before moving forward with therapy sessions.
Physical therapy sessions will be fun. PT with children is designed to be enjoyable. The therapist will use strategies and exercises based on your child’s needs. Exercises might involve playing on large stability balls, obstacle courses, movement equipment, stretches, and other hands-on activities.
Expect home exercises. Physical therapists commonly assign exercises to work on at home. Doing these exercises with your child outside therapy sessions can improve your child’s overall progress.
Yes! Most providers offer physical therapy in their offices or a clinical setting, but many are offering at-home options. Virtual options have become more popular in recent years. You might facilitate care with the guidance of the physical therapist.
