About Ryther Center for Children and Youth - Seattle

As an agency, we are focused on evidence-based practices, we have enhanced the quality and effectiveness of our work by implementing a trauma care model – Attachment, Regulation, and Competency (ARC). We are continuing to expand our service array and locations where we provide services, with therapists in more schools and social service agencies. As we expand our services to serve more than 800 children, youth and young adults each month – regardless of payer, gender identity, sexual orientation, race or ethnicity or place of origin – we do so with the intention that we would want our own families to use these services should they need them.

Brandi Harris ARNP canceled the same day as my appointment twice. Do not recommend. If your facility is running into scheduling conflicts then dont accept new patients....

I volunteered remotely with Ryther and felt the programs were an incredible help to the kids. Ive been proud to support an organization doing such great work.

I have gone to Ryther since 2016 Ive had a lot of trial and error. Mostly error. Ive had 3 therapists through them and while two of them were mostly fine they were insanely unprofessional. For example they encouraged me a person with a 10 year history of eds to lose weight for my mental health. I was also preached to about god when I spoke of religious trauma. I was also told my trans identity was invalid. All three told me with 1 weeks notice they were moving to another office or private practice then I was left to scramble to find another provider. The last time this happened was June and I was told I would get a new therapist within 2 weeks. I have spam called every week and in the entire span was only offered 1 therapist who is still in college Ryther is insanely unprofessional and doesnt care about getting people into treatment. I keep begging to get put into anyones waitlist. This is ridiculous.

I used to struggle with addiction but Im now officially clean and am a hard working contributing member of society. When I was a teenager and struggling with my mental health and drug addiction I was court ordered into Ryther although my addiction at that point wasnt so prolific as to be experiencing any kind of withdrawals and the main issue was my mental health. Drugs were not creating a risk to my life at that point it was the possibility of me doing something dangerous to myself that was the issue. I was told I would receive mental health treatment along with treatment for addiction so I was looking forward to it but after three days there it was very clear they had no intention of helping me with my mental health at all. When I tell you that the staff got off on mistreating us Im not exaggerating. The fact that any of these people were allowed to be put in charge of minors is sick. They allowed other residents to bully me incessantly and did not one thing to stop it. Yes the rules and policies set up were disgusting and didnt help us really at all but the staff were even going outside of the strict rules and stuff like that to make sure we were miserable. These are GROWN ADULTS victimizing CHILDREN. At any point during my three days there if I started smiling and relaxing I kid you not they would force me to go to my room. Im not joking here for real they actually punished me for just seeming like I was getting more comfortable and friendly with one of the other residents and stuff like that. Anytime I would start to smile it made them mad and theyd punish me. This is not normal it is so sociopathic to punish a CHILD because theyre starting to relax. This is sick and the fact that these people are just allowed to mentally and emotionally abuse these CHILDREN day after day who are just trying to get better is so far beyond just sick. EVERY SINGLE RESIDENT there at one time or another told me they were just pretending to work with the program so they could get out of there as fast as possible. Its so ironic that the staff at an addiction and mental health rehab are more in need of mental health treatment than any of the residents theyre in charge of because there is something so sick and wrong with these staff members and whoever put them in charge of CHILDREN should be absolutely ashamed and fired immediately. Im not a bad person I was a CHILD looking for help and they did everything in their power to abuse and traumatize me and all the other residents and the three days I spent there will live with me for the rest of my life. To this day I still have nightmares about my time there.

Hello I lived at the Ryther Child Center many Years ago. My name was Richo Brown now changed. I am now 70 Years old and I live in Wisconsin. My experience at Ryther Child Center was Terrible. I had Experienced Terrble Physcial Abuse there. But I also found my real family with the help of Two Very Good Social Workers Mr. Hardman and Susan Sodergren. So it was not All Bad. I would Love to Visit Ryther and see as to the changes but when I attempted several years ago to enquire I received No Response. Ihave many thoughts Feelings and Memories of The Ryther Child Center. Thank You

High turnover. Ive sent emails either slow response or no response. When Ive gotten a response its vague and indifferent. Billing has made more then one mistake and one bill that accidentally came to use was billing the insurance for over 28k for a few months. Mind you my kid is an out patient. Wise program for the past year has been a great disappointment.

The billing office is terrible. They have changed my co-pay for multiple visits they re-billed me for visits I had already paid for increasing the co-pay by 38. Their billing system and invoices are unnecessarily complicated. The therapist was not supportive of the relationship between my child and myself as well as the family we had created. In fact the therapist in cunning collaboration with my childs father assisted in the plot to have my child whisked away to the other side of the state. They planned to do this while I was out of town so that I would come home and she would be gone. The therapist coached my child to say terrible things about me and our family. Now my child believes she is better off living a lie with a parent who has chosen not to be part of her life for 7 years. I would not recommend Ryther to anyone. The psychiatrist was terrible as well. All in all a bad experience all the way around.

My name is Louanne. I was admitted to Ryther Child Center on August 11 1981. My experience as a resident at age 11 was beyond horrendous. I was singled out by staff and picked on by the other kids. I was humiliated and pushed away when all I wanted was to be loved by someone. A former foster child bounced in and out of many homes was more then any child should endure. I would probably not recommend this placement only because of my own experiences and all I went through. My advice to a parentcaregiver is that youstay in regular contact with any child you entrust to an institution no matter what type of institution it is. In cases of medical or mental health treatment you dont want to invade your childs privacy. But you should make sure your child is ok feels safe and comfortable and isnt experiencing trauma. Hope this helps
