I want to apologize in advance for this lengthy review. My husband suffered a stroke three in a half years ago. When leaving the hospital a few days later he was faced with great despair. Of course he received occupational speech and physical therapy but with very little change. Although helpful it was not enough. He stayed in his room refusing to socialize with family and friends. He was often confused had trouble thinking understanding commands communicating verbally remembering passwords dates etc. and an overall emotional wreck. I became worried that this was his new normal and our new life and with all the modern technology new therapies and medication there must be an answer so I started researching the best neurologist and brain therapies for stroke patients. I lucked up and was able to find a brain program in the DMV area. After a short time of starting the program he was prescribed an ADHD medication that as he stated took the blinders off. His despair turned to hope and I knew we were on the right track. He was in the program for 2-years when the doctor informed us that he was retiring and referring us to another neurologist. Of course I was worried yet again that this doctor would not be as sensitive understanding andor knowledgeable. Boy was I wrong From the moment we were greeted by Heather I knew that we were in the right place. She greeted the both of us with a smile and overall very nice and genuinely helpful. One year later she remains the same Although our weight was a little lengthy and my husband was becoming a little agitated after meeting Dr. Bernard Iwe felt an ease of relief. He was very nice concerned about my husbands wellbeing wanted to ensure that he had a complete understanding of his overall health up to the stroke and beyond so he ordered several tests EEGs EKGs Sleep Study etc. to once again gain a complete picture to ensure my husband was properly cared for. Yes he ran a little behind schedule but I appreciated his patience with my husbands inability to communicate quickly and clearly. He took his time answering questions that my husband had tried to get answered by other doctors unsuccessfully and provided explanations. At the end of the visit he prescribed my husband a new medication that was by far the BEST gift he could have ever given himus. He was able to think a little clearer walk exercise and do things like change the breaks on his car. Amazing results Also I want to recognize and commend Sumera who coordinated and scheduled the sleep study Lou the sleep study technician who administered the test and was patient and took the time to explain the process Stephanie who has helped me several times when refilling prescriptions. She goes the extra mile when need be by calling the pharmacy to ensure patients have the requested refills Maria in the billing office who worked with me to resolve billinginsurance issues and the nurse who shared southern cooking recipes with my husband. Overall all the staff in Dr. Bernards practice from the front desk to the nursing staff are very nice professional and sensitive to their patients needs. If you are looking for a knowledgeable doctor who is very professional caring sensitive and patient hes your guy Another comment mentioned the way the building looks..So the building is old and the elevators are small I prefer a doctor who genuinely cares about their patients and a staff that always greet you with a smile and willing to help--not a fancy or new building. Highly recommend

While I am grateful that I was seen on short notice the doctor has extremely bad interview habits. Aside from spending quite a lot of time flirting with my friend I twice had to remind him to direct his questions to me not my friend. Though he said my MRI was emergency he continued to flirt with my friend delaying us. Please retire and do your flirting outside of the office.

Dr Bernad and his staff are wonderful and caring individuals. They have been open for their patients through the whole pandemic. They offer many skills for...

The entire staff is completely polite at least in the Alexandria location. He is a doctor that actually listens to your needs and issues he also gets a lot of background information so he can diagnose correctly. He is not a doctor who will rush things with his patients appointments. Bernard and his staff are quite thoughtful and empathetic. At times he can be late coming to your room because he takes his time with some patients but Bernard is worth the wait I been to many neurologists and almost all of them have rushed the appointments have misdiagnosed me and given me meds that have given me a worse reaction. Bernard was able to diagnose correctly and give the correct meds. Had my doubts about this place but I like the environment very much so.

I went here in 2016 to get a EEG on my head. I never recieved my results because they claim they lost them. Only thing I heard was that they seen something abnormal. They later tried to bill me for the doctors visit but i refuse to pay so they said they would cancel the payments. Here it is 2020 i tried to go back and get the same test to see what was wrong with my head and they tried to bill me aagain from 2016 but once again I disputed it and they canceled the payment. They are now trying to give me a hard time when i go inside there office for an appointment. They ask me for all types of unnecessary documents and then made me wait for over 30 minutes. I have excellent medical benifits and when they seen that my medical benefits didnt require me to make co payments they started acting funny and kept asking me for the bill from 2016 again. I have problems due to a head injury but i will never recommend this dr iffice or dr to anyone and they are also very rude. Please take heed to what im saying i warned you.

I would give negative stars if possible. Went and spilled very painful personal information about myself. I got on a medication program. Given that the doctor has a personal problem with my medicine I was treated like a drug seeker.Flash forward to having a few days left of medication I called to get a prescription refill. The receptionist LAUGHED AT ME when I asked for one. She eventually told me that the policy on medication was changed I was never notified about this and that you have to have an appointment to get a prescription refill. As for the doctor he doesnt listen. You talk and talk and he just yammers on about sleep apnea. I do not have sleep apnea but he wanted to start treating me for it. I started on the lowest dosage my medication comes in with the plan of finding out what dosage was right for me but every time I told him I needed to try a stronger dosage he commented on how he wanted to get people off of meds. Great. Im not someone abusing meds. I need mine. But sure by all means screw me over for your personal crusade.Nutshell stay far far away. This doctor has an agenda to get money like the 90 dollar fee they couldnt explain to me why I owed his receptionist staff us the most unprofessional group of rude tactless people Ive ever had the displeasure of dealing with and the entire experience has been a nightmare. Dont take my word for it the one star overall rating says it pretty plainly.
