My daughter has been riding here every weekend for over a year. I have never heard foul language from Nancy or any of the volunteers. Nancy has alway asked my opinion before stepping up the expectations from my daughter. My niece has come with several times and decided she wants to switch from English to western because she gets more enjoyment here. Nancy is a straight up hard working compassionate lady. The horses kids and her cause mean everything to her. This is one of the few places my daughter has a natural aptitude so we will keep coming here probably for a long time to come.Thank you for all your hard work and love Nancy

This is in response to the previous review. The child that was supposedly made to cry when asked to cantor and said she did not want to is my daughter. This volunteer is speaking out of turn about something she does not have complete knowledge of. My daughter and son have been receiving therapy at Healing Winds for over a year. The expectations and details of their therapy is not something this volunteer has any knowledge of. We have specifically asked that our daughter be encouraged to do things she may not want to do or is nervous to do. She did not cry that day and was so excited after her session. She was proud to have done something that made her nervous. I have never seen the owner speak to her volunteers the way that is described. She is firm and has clear expectations which is necessary to keep everyone safe when working with gentle giants and small children. I have nothing but respect and gratitude for the owner and all the volunteers at Healing Winds. My children have improved immensely since beginning therapy and greatly enjoy every moment they spend at the barn. We have never left with an upset child nor have either of my children every been in tears while at the barn or after. These types of reviews are so hurtful and it is unfortunate that someone would tarnish the reputation of such a valuable resource as Healing Winds based on inaccurate and misunderstood information. I highly recommend Healing Winds to anyone in need of therapy or horse riding lessons.

My daughters have volunteered at Healing Winds off and on for the past 15 years. As their life and interests change they have come and gone from the barn. But they always find their way back. Yes I can say Nancy can be stearn BUT you have to remember you are working around a 1200lb animal wether you are volunteering or doing therapy. Yes she has been stern with my girls at some point but it was either for their safety or the horses. She has also been stearn with them regarding their time working cleaning stalls and such. I can say people can forget. You may be volunteering your time but its at a place of business and you need to do things to their standards such as stall cleaning etc. I can say all of them have learned an amazing work ethic by volunteering their time. It prepared them for when they entered the workforce.

I have PTSD high anxiety OCD. Im a senior woman and I was looking for something to help with my conditions. Ive always loved the thought of riding caring for horses but never experienced or followed through it. I took the step went on line found a place close to home and found Healing Winds. I cant express the warm caring loving experience when I met the owner Nancy Elder. She welcomed me was patient extremely knowledgeable in the every day caring of her horses and other animals she has at the stables. I feel so humbled blessed that she accepted me to help assist with the care of her horses and other animals and assist with the special needs clientele. Healing Winds is such a special place

Our son received nothing therapeutic or healing at this riding center. As his mother I received only a lasting feeling of nausea and regret whenever I think about the red flags I ignored as his lessons progressed. After dealing with pediatric OT and therapy over Zoom through the pandemic I wanted so much for something like this to work for him he sounded like the perfect candidate based on their website. I wish I had recognized the toxicity sooner and stopped it.I do not want to publish personal details about my son online however since I cant go back in time and warn myself I would like to warn other parents in my place. If you have a child with behavioral or developmental difficulties and are considering taking them to Healing Winds Therapeutic Riding Center please dont.If you are a parent considering this riding center and would like to know more about our specific experience as you make decisions for your family please message me directly. To the owners of this business please do not contact me at all.

I volunteered at Healing Winds years ago and It was the most memorable time of my life. I have such respect for the owner of the establishment and the way she takes good care of her horse and livestock. I would recommend to anyone looking for alternative therapy for their loved ones.

The treatment of the children here is not therapeutic at all. Belittling yelling at cursing in front of these children who are there for Therapeutic purposes is unacceptable. Treating your volunteers like garbage is also unacceptable. You should change your heart and ways before dealing with children.

The lady who owns this place is rude and uninviting. I feel for a therapy place she would be more welcoming. I called ahead and was told tues-thurs or sat I could bring my client out to see horses. I asked if we should call ahead and schedule and she said no and was really nice. When we got there a few days later she seemed off put by us just showing up and I understood that. I then called ahead asking to just come look at horses my client just wants to look at them. We were told no theyre busy. I called again today asking to come tomorrow and she said yes no problem. I asked if we should schedule a time and she said no just come. Then she asked if we came the other day and I said yes. Her whole attitude changed and suddenly the horses were eating too many apples. I told her we want to look not feed them. Then she said it would be fine she just needs to know when we come. I asked if calling ahead was a good idea or what to do and she said she needed us to call first. Before I could finish asking if we could schedule for tomorrow now.... She hung up on me. I dont know what we did to make her not like us but I would rather be told no than my client feel bad for being given excuses. The name Healing Winds Therapuetic Riding gave me the impression of a safe comfortable place. I would give 0 stars if I could. I called 2 other places and they were very happy to let us come look at horses.
